Stella Y. Edwards

Stella Y. Edwards Stella Y. Edwards is a mother, wife, substitute teacher, education activist, and former United States Army Officer. Edwards holds a B.A. in Special Education from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and is a graduate of the Combined Arms and Service Staff School in Leavenworth, Kansas; she is currently enrolled in the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at the University of Virginia. Edwards is also a National PTA trainer for the Building Successful Partnerships and Emerging Minority Leaders programs.

Edwards has been a PTA member for more than 15 years, and currently serves as a member of the field service committee. She is also the education committee chairman for Virginia PTA, and president of Chesterfield County Council of PTAs/PTSAs. Edwards has served as a local unit president, district director, and chairman of various Virginia PTA committees. Edwards serves on two committees for the Virginia Department of Education (the No Child Left Behind Committee of Practitioners and the Career Technical Education Program Committee), as well as working for the Virginia Education Coalition and the Virginia Education Forum.

Edwards is married to Herman A. Edwards. They have two children—Kimberly and Jonathan—both currently attending college. The Edwards live in Chesterfield County, Virginia.
