Dr. Karen McLean Dade is a professor and chairperson of the education department at Spelman College in Atlanta. She has been in the field of education for thirty-five years, working as a professor, teacher, specialist, consultant, community activist, and researcher. Throughout her professional life she has been the recipient of numerous education and humanitarian awards, and is recognized in her field as a national and international scholar.
Dr. McLean Dade is a published author, having produced articles, invited chapters, and books (including Through Students’ Eyes: Combating Racism in United States Schools and Shattering the Denial: Protocols for the Classroom and Beyond). She has also presented as keynote speaker or invited panelist for major conferences and associations such as the American Education Research Association and the National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME). Additionally, she has received fellowships and served as a visiting research scholar for organizations including the United States International University (Nairobi, Kenya), Human Sciences Research Council (Pretoria, South Africa), PACE Center/Yale University, and the Hong Kong Education Institute. Dr. McLean Dade is the founder of Comparative Research and Teaching USA—South Africa Educators Exchange Program, and the paradigm developer for Cross Cultural Studies and the Kuumba Learning Model. Dr. McLean Dade is currently a Board of Examiner (BOE) for the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GAPSC), and past BOE for the National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education. Furthermore, she is an invited member of the National Comprehensive Center for Teacher Quality: Higher Education Council (HEC), and state HEC member for GAPSC. She is currently chair of the Educational Testing Services: Major Field Test Education Committee. Dr. McLean Dade has served on other executive boards, including NAME and Alliant International University. |
