Timeline & Planning Tools

By the week of March 30

What:
 Form a planning committee that includes parents, students, and the principal.
 
How:
Issue a call for volunteers. Communicate the time and place for your meeting. Bring an agenda and be prepared to build consensus and action plans.


By the week of April 6
 
What:
Approach businesses and community groups about donating merchandise or gift certificates for teacher gifts, and food, space, or time for Teacher Appreciation Week events.
 
How:
Send one or more volunteers out into the community to share your plans and ask business leaders and community groups if they would like to be involved with the celebration. Exchange contact information, secure commitments, and thank community members on behalf of PTA.


By the week of April 13
 
What:
Start communicating activities and details to all families, neighbors, and other community members.
 
How:
Use all the communication vehicles available, including the school and PTA websites, newsletters, e-mail, telephone, fliers, and face-to-face opportunities, to get the word out about Teacher Appreciation Week. Tell people how they can take part in events and thank teachers on their own.


By the week of April 20
 
What:
Give local media outlets notice about Teacher Appreciation Week activities at your school.
 
How:
Provide the who, what, when, where, and why of your activities in a press release.


By the week of April 27
 
What:
Gather the supplies you will need for your Teacher Appreciation Week activities.
 
How:
Coordinate trips to party supply stores, food stores, print shops, etc., as needed. Check in with volunteers and businesses that will be contributing time or goods.


 
By the week of May 4
 
What:
It’s PTA Teacher Appreciation Week!
 
How:
Celebrate teachers and staff at your school!
